“He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.” (Micah 5:4)
I was talking to a friend about purchasing things on the internet. I have just bought some shoes online but was worried they would not be what I expected. And they weren’t! Fortunately the company had a good return policy.
My friend told me of a shirt he once bought. On the computer it was a grey and cream shirt with a subtle design but when it arrived it was bright blue and green with a polka dot design – something he would never wear.
When he contacted the company about the shirt their only response was, “yes, the design didn’t come up well in the photo”!!!
There are often times when we come across the unexpected. I’ve learned that we certainly can’t anticipate everything that will happen in our lives.
When the prophet Micah spoke of the coming Messiah, he spoke to the people of a warrior who would give the people security. Now that we know of the Messiah Jesus, it seems to paint a different picture.
The security Jesus brought didn’t come through winning battles but by giving wisdom, comfort and peace.
I often read through the prophetic passages about Jesus and understand how the disciples got the wrong idea of who Jesus would be and how the religious leaders questioned Jesus’ validity. He brought a whole new meaning to being the Messiah.
We can’t always predict God. Let’s not put Him in a box so we can explain Him better. Let’s be open to the unexpected that God brings into our lives every day.
