“Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.” (Psalm 2:10)
It’s only every other week that we hear in the news that someone in leadership or someone famous has done something wrong. It might be something as minor as a traffic offense or as dramatic as a sordid affair.
While it must be hard for them to deal with these sort of crises in the public eye, it is a good reminder that we all need to be mindful of our actions. Just because we are rich or famous or popular or beautiful does not mean we are above reproach.
When the Psalmist talks about the Lord’s power, he specifically warns those in leadership. Maybe the writer thought they needed reminding of their place in the bigger picture. Maybe it was a way of telling all the other people that God treats them all as equals.
For us today it reminds us to be mindful of God. No matter what position we hold, or how easily we have got out of trouble in the past, God is all powerful.
He is greater than the highest ruler. He is stronger than the fiercest animal. He is fiercer than the wildest sea.
Let us not underestimate God’s power.
